I wish we would pay more attention to the language that is used to describe what AI is doing. Is it really seeking rewards, for example, or is it intimidating reward seeking in a mechanistic way? Just like it can imitate telling a joke without experiencing humor. It can imitate self-conscious inner dialog too, but this is just because that's what humans do. It can behave selfishly without being selfish, etc. This is the most interesting thing about the AI discussion, and I think that there is a lot of misleading or at the very least unconsidered language surrounding this question.
