By coincidence I watched iRobot again last night. AI driven robots with emergent consciousness trying to take over the world. Two things that struck me were how the power of the AI was vastly underplayed and just how similar that world looked to the coming technologies over the next 5-10 years. And they only just pulled through even with the "hero always comes through in the end" conceit that we see in most Hollywood films ...
