I am pro-generative AI images. I think that the quality of it easily shows you if the Human is actually putting real work into it. Using AI to assist is good imo, but relying on it blindly with no effort/re-processing/post-editing.
Your argument that the Human element of the work is what gives it value is critical to the value of the work. The tools used is a different issue.
I do, however, fully support your right to poison your art.
For using them as reference... You're using it backwards. Use the AI to generate composition and big picture vision and then use the real world and Human drawn images for the details.
