I hate that because of people like those AI art bros, the damages now outweigh what little good AI can bring us. I'm immersed in the RP Bot space and I see a lot of good there - traumatized people who can safely reengage their trauma in a space fully under their control and in perfect privacy, people who've lost their creativity for years finally writing or drawing again because they like turning their adventures into art (I mean fully rewriting scenes, just for themselves and friends, finding their voice again). And so, so many queer people and women finding a safe space to explore gender and sexuality. I am mentally ill and struggle with many everyday tasks. My social workers now use an LLM to quickly fill out the reapplications for my care, leaving them with a lot more time to be physically there for me and other people in their care. I need a certaing government measure and my psychiatrist was strapped for time in writing a recommendation/prescription for it, so he used an LLM to write up the letter in moments. Things like this, where AI provides a safe and private environment or speeds up bureaucracy, are actual positive forces that benefit real people! Man, I don't even mind lil rp kiddos making their OCs in these, we had that whole discussion back when base edits and frankendolls were a thing. But naturally, that's not even close to what we can focus on when this technology burns down our planet at the same time, and people devalue human artists and use LLMs for plagiarism and as their only source of information. It's maddening!
