Humans have a singular knack for putting themselves at the center of the universe. Oh we can control AI, oh it won't get smarter than us, oh we'll be fine. We can't control it (arguably it's already past the tipping point, we are fast approaching mass adoption) it will definitely get smarter, and we're (probably) not going to be fine. Neanderthals were essentially replaced by humans, who were able to adapt more quickly thanks to our complex brains. There is every chance we'll end up much the same way as the poor Neanderthal, pushed out by smarter intelligences.
