It will be interesting to see how these lawsuits turn out or if they end up in court for a very long time unresolved. I do wonder if there is a way to prompt to AI to help you get and experience the journey part of the creative process, not just the quick answer. As in have it help with a particular part of the generation or ideation phases, or the review and editing processes. Not just generate the entire essay for you. Also, I wonder if there would be a way to double check the results for which bits of the training data were accessed while the AI was. Producing its output to provide sources so you’d be able to tell oh this was in the public domain and is okay to use as is versus oh this is a copyrighted intellectual property and should not be used or generated. If you want to use that intellectual property you can pay XYZ amount for each image the artist or property owner has allowed according to this or that license that the property owner has allowed. Then property owners or authors or creators could clearly be identified, their property cleared marked for which uses they are allowing or not allowing, and they could be paid. Similar to purchasing stock photos from a website for a presentation, or spreadsheets or PDFs on Etsy, or images and sags on Creative Fabrica for POD print on demand purposes, etc. There are usually details on which license is included with the purchase. We do have legal frameworks for how these properties should be handled and it is possible to address AI usage or even any type of digital usage. They could train the AI to automatically include those types of details to help understand the ramifications of how an end product can and cannot be used. This could be in the courts for some time and even then they may not come to an official ruling or set any other precedents for other lawsuits like this. Not sure all of that makes sense. 😅
