No, I will argue that what AI does is dramatically different than someone being inspired by an artist and creating a new work of art from stratch. If someone were to steal a few pieces of art from an artist, photoshop them together, and then call it their own creation without crediting the original artist, that would be labeled as plagiarism. This is what AI is doing.
If I take the time to sit down and paint, in my own style, a piece of art, inspired by the styles and methods of other artists, possibly using a reference, I am not plagiarizing. I am creating art. And for that art that I spent hours creating to be put into an AI generator for someone to plagiarize is a tragedy.
