I am a graphic designer and illustrator, I love what I do, and it is my livelihood. I am also aspiring artist, and it’s more of a hobby at the moment, but I was hoping to do it full time one day and live off it. I have decided to try AI generation yesterday, just to see what all the fuss was about. And yes, I see why artists feel that these is not fair to them. In minutes, I was able to generate images that would take me hours to produce by hand (I do digital painting as well)! The fact that someone else’s work was ripped apart and at times just fully copied to create these is just unfair. All I needed to do is to enter text prompt - I can not understand how people can call themselves AI artists and claim these generated images as their own! There is literally no effort. Real artists should be compensated for using their art in the AI learning, and be able to choose if they are willing to participate at all. For me, I feel much less motivated to develop as an artist after seeing this, but I will get over it eventually. I just love painting and drawing, with ink on paper, with paint on canvas, it brings me joy. It just saddens me that I will probably never be able to make a living out of it, because of these changes in the industry…
