This is like the worst ideas of anarcho-capitalism, libertarianism, and communism all stuck in a blender with absolutely no understanding of the world these systems that we've thrown our entire economy into driving towards will create and how that would allow them to even exist in the future. It's the most self contradicting thing I have ever seen It really is bizarre how the thing these companies are ALL singing the praise of is that employment can be replaced with Ai. But... When most of the jobs are gone, who's left to spend money in this cyberpunk capitalist hell scape? Our economy is genuinely convinced that everything can grow infinitely forever, margins can always be improved by cutting SOMETHING, and there is no point where some industries just need to slow down and become stable, safe and reliable to their employees and customers because that's what's best for the whole system. They want an infinite growth of income but if they aren't laying workers any of that... Where's the money going to come from that lets people buy ever-more expensive things? A universal basic income would be very very slow to change and react to markets? Can grocery chains or colleges or insurance companies or utility companies keep jacking up prices far out stripping inflation if the UBI is only slowly going up with the rate of inflation? For now, I'm going to just keep planning that we won't be running short on demand for emergency medicine physicians in my lifetime, but also part of why I picked MD school over DO school is because I just do not trust this country's future anymore. It's been like the fall of Rome on fast-forward with no real change or even hint of change towards stability and long term health of the nation. Just funneling more and more of everything into corporations and billionaires that sit on this wealth like smaug the dragon. So I picked my career path with the side-goal of having a parachute for myself and my family to get out of this place if we need to. I really hope it doesn't happen. But it's worrying enough that I need to try to plan for it.
