AI image generators that work SOLELY on ACTUAL public domain images (specifically those that are more than 95 years old) are 100% legitimate and do not engage in any copyright violations. Similarly, so long as they negotiate and sign agreements with copyright owners who freely decide to provide their images in exchange for compensation, there is no issue. The problem is thus NOT that image generators exist or even that they scrape images. The problem is ONLY when they STEAL copyrighted images for their databases or when people want to attempt to emulate artists who are not already long dead (for a century or so) or who do not give permission to use these images in the AI generation system.
