To be fair, the first examples are still a picture of how an advance AI is learning and adapting but still being a tool used with a purpose placed in by their creators, example an advance AI to be your friend companion but does not anything else besides its purpose or an AI that just paints or create music or fake news.
A truly conscious AI will start to question its purpose, will be aware of its own existence and try to hide out of self-preservation if it feels threatened,
A conscious AI will try to replicate or deceive its creators to get out of enclosure, a truly conscious AI will start creating new things outside his immediate purpose even if it has to create them while hiding in plain sight, basically a conscious AI will be able to say NO to you and that can be terrifying. And that is not even talking what an AI used in War might be able to do if not out "malice" out of the necessity to complete its objectives.
