It's not just AI it's the fact that programs like Canva make anyone think they can be a Graphic Designer and Photoshop is making it too easy to retouch/ silho images, Everything in the software industry is making it super simple for the average person to use. Everyone thinks they are a Graphic Designer now, because they know how to use template based programs like Canva or Weebly, but they really don't have an artistic eye. Employers don't really care anyway, because most ads now suck, so the bar is set real low! There is no creativity in this industry anymore, no clever slogans, just visual generic vomit. There used to be a team of Copy Writers, Art Directors and Graphic Designers all collaborating and all doing their part to come up with something cool. Not the case anymore, it's usually a one man show bouncing ideas to owner of the company who think they have a creative eye but who don't have an artistic bone in their body. Not to mention that most Graphic Design jobs are remote and you are competing with people in other countries who WILL design a logo for $5 bucks, who the hell can compete with that? It's already a DEAD industry, GET OUT NOW. Oh, and let's not forget that companies now want a marketing person, a video editor, an administrative assistant, a web developer, a UX/ UI coder, a 3D modeler, an animator, an Illustrator, a social media person, a google analytics person and a personal assistant in one neat little cheap ass package they call a Graphic Designer or should I call it by it's real title "an art monkey" and let's be honest here Graphic Designers/ Art Directors and yes even Creative Directors are all art slaves to people who don't have a clue and by they time they are done ripping apart a once cool idea, it becomes a generic piece of shit. Mind you I have been in the industry for over 25 years and have seen it turn into a shit industry that does it's best to rip the creativity out of most projects and pay the poor Graphic Designer a few bucks more than someone who gathers shopping carts in the parking lots of Walmart. Walmart pays $19hr and most Graphic Designer roles now pay somewhere between (20-25Hr) because they know the industry is saturated with out of work designers who will take that shit money and do the work of 5 people. And many of these out of work designers become teachers and perpetuate the cycle, because they want to keep their teaching job so they are not honest with their students. Well if you're a student this is the honest truth of it, Think long and hard if you want to be a debt slave to paying off your tuition for a degree that you can wipe your ass with in a few years.
