Geoffrey Hinton in the early 90s moved artificial intelligence to baysean networks promoting network effects would do more for AI than anything before had. I looked at it when I think he was at McGill. It looked iffy and too many decades away to build a career. He deserves credit sticking with artificial intelligence.
