Hi, disabled artist here! First off I'm super appreciative of you mentioning that a lot of people are talking about us and not with us, which is a super common thing that happens when it comes to the disabled community that few people realize happens, so thank you for that. I have both mental and physical disabilities that make functioning at the same level as nerotypical and able bodied people very difficult and my art has always been a safe place for me. I use a drawing tablet because I like having the ability to use stability tools and the undo button (along with the features you mentioned and others) because of my shaky hands, unpredictable movements that come from my Tourettes, and extreme anxiety disorder. (Just leaving this comment was terrifying lol) I struggle with memory issues so I use timelines, lists, and grids to keep track of things (ie. the line thickness I like to use, the steps of rendering, what things I don't need to worry about until later, and to remind myself of much more). And if I don't know or understand something that I want to depict - and like many other non-disabled artists do - I ask someone who does know. I'll go online and ask someone with experience or I'll talk with other artists in my life for tips. So you see, I've had no problem finding accomodations without using AI even once. I have found safety within the disabled artist community and have found the strength to keep fighting for a better life because of it. This is a job that I can do, something I can pursue without worrying about if I'll be able to walk in the morning, something that I don't have to do perfectly in order to succeed. The idea that my art or writing could be stolen when I put so much love and care into it is devastating. And the fact that people are using my existence and the existence of others like me to justify theft and soulless short cuts is infuriating. We are disabled, not incapable of creating. If it's something we love or something we want to do, we'll find a way. Just like we have with countless other things for ages. No, drawing doesn't come as easily for me as others, but no, AI is not the answer. If I could, I would stomp it out under the rubber on my crutches.
