I like to think I put real effort into on-device AI generations (aka not data center gens) - not to make money, not to get famous, just a hobbyist stretching the limits of current technological possibility.
It’s disturbing to me that AI evangelists are so broken in their reasoning that they have to pull the cards that you discussed, like ableism. Most of these slop generators don’t put effort into what they’re doing and will defend to the death their current right to garbage using any cheap trick they can find.
Fact of the matter is, I make “AI art”, NOT “art”. I haven’t spent 20 years honing my skills to understand perspective, or mediums, color theory, or anything like that to make ACTUAL good art. I put shit together to see if something is possible and say “yeah that looks good” at the end - I have little true eye for the canvas though I wish I did, I would love to make better work.
I hope the art community wins the lawsuits. As a hobbyist I like to see what can be done with limitations. Being able to say “SpongeBob” and spitting Nickelodeon’s icon onto the screen in a couple seconds is not a limitation, it’s a cheat, paid for by us all.
