The only 'thing' that can be Sentient - Is Sentience ItSelf. Humans have the capacity, in those who cultivate it and many currently do not, to 'get out of the way' and become Aware of 'That', and make use of 'That'.
AI can never get of the way and become/make use of Sentience - You can only appreciate that when you yourself have actually known what Sentience actually is - as opposed to what you think it is - Two very different 'things'.
