To be an artist could be someone’s fate that can’t be escaped. Some ppl just don’t understand it. Some comments said: ”I’m not close minded about artistic media, I do appreciate all forms of creative even it was AI, I’m not even care if I’m an “artist” or not.“ I replied: ‘ “Artist" is just a word, but it can mean so much more. If you don't care, then no one else in the world will. But if you treat art like a game, then sure — however you play, whatever you think — it's all valid, and you can enjoy it. It's like peeing in the snow on a dark winter night: no one sees your face clearly, and no one cares who left the mark on the ground. Because you don't care. You just want the climax — I totally get it. But not everyone is willing to remain unseen. And when people are left in the shadows, watching their creative work get stolen — as human beings, they care. There's always someone who cares. By the way, in China, you're not considered an "artist 艺术家" or "painter 画家" unless you've made it onto celebrity lists, are a professor at a prestigious art academy, a member of an official organization like the China Artists Association, or have held a significant number of major exhibitions. You don't want to call yourself — an artist or painter in front of the public. Otherwise, ppl will say you are arrogant or unaware of your own skill level. Whether you make a living through art or just do it for fun, people generally expect you to use a specific job title — like illustrator, visual content creator, editor, photographer, or simply "someone who makes art." Why? Because in traditional Chinese culture, a person's career is expected to reflect their social identity and life purpose — the idea of “立业立命” (to establish one’s career and thereby define one’s identity and destiny). This is also why we have the concept of “Shifu 师父” (master), a title that reflects professional identity and earned respect. Many films teach this cultural value — take Kung Fu Panda as an example, though we won’t go into detail here. So don’t get confused or caught up in the concept of the word “artist.” And please respect people's jobs and careers. In some people’s eyes, you’re not one — and that’s fine. This whole “who gets to be called an artist” debate is tired. Let’s move on.’ Some comments said...“It simply means art is going to be moved back to the hobby. To pay the bills I have my terrible soul-sucking corporate job I hate, but oh well.” I replied: ‘That’s so wrong. Please make a voice to support real artists! To me, as a Chinese Canadian professional illustrator and graphic designer with few years of experience (holding an art degree from Sheridan in Canada, now a freelancer in the art industry) used to do designer jobs and get good salaries from companies. It is a tough situation to get by, but I never regret or think about giving up. Give up art creativity = give up life. I’ve been painting since I knew how to hold a pen. I draw and earn from it (both digital and traditional ways) because I have my own way of doing/creating it and ppl like me and my work. This is not a hobby — this is what I do. At this moment, Even if I earn less, or earn nothing, that doesn’t mean art goes “back to being a hobby.” It never was. (Nothing to do with AI here.) Maybe AI bro just don't understand what serious art means. To be an artist could be someone’s fate that can’t be escaped. There is a book called The Art Spirit written by Robert Henri. It shows how real artists are supposed to think about painting. Serious artists think things differently( every single little thing, no joke). Artists can’t separate their own art life. JUST CAN'T. Can't escape their art mind. This is called fate. So we as serious artists ought to treat art as a serious job (we can do multiple jobs to earn more and feed ourselves) so to feel better physically and mentally. Keep holding on the future belongs to us the real soul artists.’
