I'm someone with much more mixed feelings about AI art than your hardline stance on one side of this issue. I'm not an evangelist for it. I don't think that prompting is a form of creativity comparable to drawing, and I don't think that the analogy between AI image scraping and human artists taking inspiration from other human artists holds much water. And I think that in a larger context beyond AI art, AI in general is making everything worse and rapidly proliferating misinformation and accelerating the ongoing "enshittification "of everything online. But I also think that AI art has use cases that don't harm anyone*, particularly when used by small creators without budgets (there's no justification for a large corporation with a sizable budget that could be paying human artists to use it to cut corners. All of that said, all I'd say about the art poisoning thing is that it feels like closing the barn door once all the cows are out or however that expression is supposed to go. Generative AI tools have already scraped a gigantic subset of the human art on the internet. I feel like you're at least partly misunderstanding the quote you put on screen around 2:15. Yes, "poisoning" art does worsen model decay. But this very quote discusses how model decay is a thing already happening not because more and more of the image data being scraped is poisoned, but because more and more of the image data being scraped is from AI generations. It's a matter of copies of copies of copies, of a model output increasingly separated from any human soul or creative input. It sounds like the model itself is destined to fail as AI art is increasingly based on other AI art. *AI does have harmless applications as an art tool. If you're generating abstract patterns, or swirls, or something like a background paper texture, a thing that I'm pretty sure that a lot of digital tools--predated and don't count as generative AI--generate algorithmically, you're not taking work from artists. If anything, you're perhaps stealing from vulture stock image sites which are dogshit themselves and in most cases equally unethical as AI art.
