If a human researcher used the Times articles to learn about the content and then wrote new articles about the topics in his own words and opinions it would be fair use if sited. However, if the same researcher reproduced the times articles verbatim then that would be plagiarism. AI doesn't produce anything original it is just a fancy statistical cut and paste machine. Therefore everything an AI produces is plagiarism unless you have procured a license from the original author. If on the other hand a person takes the output of an AI and then writes about it in his own words and opinions then it switches back to fair use.
