How to convince others to actively stop it is absolutely impossible. The threats from AI are real, people are absolutely terrified. Nobody knows how to stop it without dismantling the telecommunications and power grids. If you did that, you've lost your civilisation but it would buy time until the next one came along. You'd have to dismantle civilisation, how would you do that? That's the choice, extinction or giving up electricity. How are you going to do that? Even with the threat of extinction how would you do that? It means throwing away your smartphone and living as people did in ancient Egypt. You could probably get away with a few victorian earthenwhere electric cells for the odd bit of electro plating and the odd steam engine here and there but for the most part the middle classes will be doing well if they have a mule and trap. Not a bad way of life compared with the alternative but you'll have to wave bye bye to dreams of immortality and a pain free life span. But no, it is not possible to cherry pick a progression.
