This ownership argument is BS. I’m an artist, have been for a long time. Artist aren’t concerned about their art being reused, it’s been a running joke among artists when their work is appropriated and repurposed. We don’t care. It’s actually a good thing. The original work is always respected. The people making a fus are impressionable people that don’t have any substance to their works, and BS is their bread and butter. Then you have the lawyers, who don’t really care what ppl are arguing about, as long as they can’t click up paid minutes to line their bank accounts. It’s fair to discuss this. But if it’s on the internet, it’s fair use. We had this discussion over memes 20 years ago. It was spurious to even begin to think anyone could make everyone accountable or even enforce it. And memes like AI are good enjoyable content. The data set should be everything. The ppl that want to restrict it, are anti-open source and just like ruining ppl’s enjoyment, just to make everybody pay money for their freedom to enjoy it. It’s a tired tug of war this one. Let the content be mashed-up, it’s so bloody interesting. And artist know how to work it, like we did with post modernism, where we did a mashup with art from all of art history, this is a natural progression. The resistance is monetary monopolised wanting take a cut at the expense of everyone, taking away n capitalizing on the enjoyment. Keep it free baby. We know this is the way.
