ran into a coder in san diego a few weeks ago. He was my uber driver in his super fancy model S tesla because he had just been replaced by AI alongside a significant portion of his department after working for oracle for 15 years. Just a pink slip on a friday. So he's getting rid of his $4500 USD/mo house and moving his family with 3 kids to a poor area where he can try to survive off of uber or SOMETHING else because the entire industry stopped hiring. He can't find a job in his industry, maybe permanently, and every industry he'll be looking at will go down a similar path. Even mcdonalds is automating almost everything at this point with AI. Uber is going auto within the next couple of years for sure. There won't even be blue collar jobs for him to fall back on soon.
