Two major takeaways I got from this video: Consciousness doesn't mean fuck all. There is nothing outside of a person's perspective that denotates consciousness as defined in this video to a person experiencing the world. This is a _very_ self-centered statement, but from my perspective, there is no other "consciousness", because there is no other experience, and (contrary to this statement) from your (the reader of this comment) perspective, the same statement can be said. We don't ultimately care about consciousness in this debate. We only care if something seems conscious enough for someone to _care_ about it. Humans treated other humans as worthless garbage for the majority of human history. Eventually we mingled enough to say "but they deserve to be treated as not garbage", because the people in charge started caring about them. The AI civil rights movement is just a few people caring about the machines that gain this "consciousness" away. Then we'd potentially have a society somewhere in the realm of where I understand Overwatch is where there are AI just integrated into society living cooperatively with humans - Ie, the best ending. The second takeaway isn't far off from the first. As doom and gloom as the whole AI will eventually take over the world thing is, I have a feeling if this sort of dystopian AI sort of thing approaches, it won't be humans versus AI, it will be AI versus AI. As the end of the video seems to allude to, AI could evolve into its own species. Whether or not it kills all humans may be what said war would be fought over. And if these conscious AI truly "feel", they would probably be compelled to preserve the biosphere as humans have been inclined to do. Because why would an AI be so smart that it can complete its objective using resources that it didn't even know it had available, but it doesn't run into _something_ that tells it how to restrict its use of that resource such that it doesn't kill everything.
