I think this report is a bit of wishful thinking. I bet factory workers were saying the same when assembly line robots came out.
Yes, vibe coding is a bad idea but what about Spec Driven development with AI? Also even if AI is just used as a tool, and productivity goes up 20%, then I need 20% fewer developers. Also the tools are improving all the time. I spoke recently with a very experienced senior dev and he said “Claude can do everything I can”. Accountability is also not a problem. Whoever reviewed the AI generated code is accountable if it goes wrong. The job of a developer moves towards code review instead of code generation. Most of the issues mentioned in the report are due to people using AI poorly. Code duplication, not object oriented? There are plenty of tools that detect duplication. You can tell AI, generate me a class. Problem solved.
