The alternative argument is that AI will take forever (outside China) because we cannot generate the power necessary to fuel the computing power necessary to AI learning. Also, the comment about automatic tellers not leading to joblessness is quite incorrect. Banks are closing all over the country - it just takes a while. Taking this one step further, a major food store in the UK claimed that when it introduced automatic checkouts, nobody would lose their jobs. This may be so, but suddenly they aren't hiring anymore. Why? A teller gets redeployed to fill shelves, so that's one less shelf filler you need to recruit, and so on.
