I agree that AI art is not especially interesting for it's own sake, though some of it is amazing and i think it is good for inspiration. I hope it doesn't take over completely, but there are some applications that i think are worthwhile. The main one i want to see is say a video game with live/dynamically generated art assets, i.e. something totally impossible for a human artist to do. Think maybe something like the procedurally generated flora and fauna in No Man's Sky, but taken to the next level where the proc gen engine can use AI to generate things that even the designers never imagined.
