I wonder if you've heard this one before. I believe practice and effort is what it takes to become good at anything, and "gifts" can only give you the initial push. I was born with a gift, but that gift was not for art, it was for math and physics, and I've studied them for as long as I can remember. I am passionate about it, I love it, it is something I really enjoy, because I put years of effort into it, just how you all put it into art. However, I too want to express myself creatively. I have stories in my head that I want to be real, I have characters I want to exist, I want to read a book with this specific plot elements that I came up with. So I write them, myself, because writing is the closest thing to my existing skillset. But some ideas are just better expressed if there is art in it. I want to make books with pictures, I want to make manga, I want to make visual novels, just to express these ideas in the medium they are best suited for. Our lives, however, are finite. I probably could spend years of practice and effort to learn how to draw decently enough to not cringe when I look at it, but it would take years. Years spent focusing on something I don't have that passion about, years spent not doing what I love, but what I need to create something I want to exist. Then there is AI. A thing that produces fake art of mediocre quality. But to get even to that level, I would have to spend years, years I would rather spend on something else I'm passionate about. So the choice is to either use AI to complement my writing with mediocre art, or to never let my OCs have a face. AI makes things possible that would have never existed otherwise. It is not real art, but sometimes fake art really is good enough, given your options.
