[This is a long comment, and I’m looking to have a rational discussion here.] Did you really destroy someone here, or harass them and set the stage for more harassment in their future? I agree, I don’t think you should be selling AI art, but if they openly admit that what they sell is AI art, they don’t deserve the same level of disdain as someone who pretends AI art is their own. My opinion on AI art itself would probably be even longer than this comment. However, back to my thesis, what happened here was harassment. This person was not promoting their artwork in spaces used by actual artists. They were minding their business, when someone else came and told them to delete a post because they thought it was ai generated. Normal hatred you get on platforms like twitter, especially when you post something that inadvertently implies something controversial, right? But what happened next could set a disturbing trend. People rushed to create their own art to mock this person who did nothing besides posting something and having the wrong person see it. The vast majority of these response posts @ed the original poster, and included swearing that was implicitly directed at them. That is harassment, and on such a large and persistent scale it’s bullying. And I don’t care your opinion on ai art, we should all be able to agree that bullying someone never has a positive effect on the person, and makes you a scumbag, even if the person you bullied is a bigger scumbag. What’s worse is that someone involved in this campaign may not realize what they did was bullying, and posted their “comeback” feeling proud of themself. But my biggest concern is that sooner or later, this will backfire. it doesn’t take much digging to find evidence that humanity is getting worse at telling human-made art from ai-generated images. What happens if someone like the Sheldon commenter comes to a human artist’s post and says it’s ai-generated? What happens if people react there like they did here? What will happen if after having their artwork mocked and called fake, along with the other normal hate mail internet infamy brings, makes an actual human artist decide to never share their art again? Or worse, to never make art again? Will you be as proud there as you were here?
