Just starting the video but I've had this on my mind for a bit, so Im so glad to see someone great at communicating talk about it. When Detroit: Become Human came out, I was already familiar with the game's creator and how he was a total dirtbag. Seeing the actual game I was gobsmacked at how ham-handed the imagry and comparisons to horrific IRL events were. Literally, the entire philosophy around the game is "androids gaining human rights and status," but the problem is when compared to the IRL dehumanization of black people, or jews, or other groups, there's a massive fundamental flaw in the logic: to their core, the androids *are not* actually human. It's their construction, their biology, so to speak. Which is in agreement with the racists side. Black people ARE human, they're just not treated like it. And the racists argued through fake science like phrenology that black people were biologically different from white people. But they weren't. That's the point! I think if they had made the game more about autonomy and how we dehumanize different types of marginalized groups it would have made MUCH more sense and been cathartic. No matter what you are, how you come into being, you deserve autonomy, sort of thing. But yknow, that doesn't sell as well as "android underground railroad" 😤 Anyway. Rant aside, I feel like the overall positive reception of the game exposed that not matter how blatant the signaling is, most people will still struggle to put the pieces together to comprehend how gross the actual comparison is. So when we see these anti-robot videos using racist slurs and terms pulled straight from the history of IRL oppression of many groups, I'm just having flashbacks of that game and wondering why people find the content so compelling/funny....
