AI could be a brilliant, world changing innovation, just like any other. Luddism isn't the answer. Means such as AI are not bad in and of themselves, their effects are dictated by the mode and circumstances of finance, production, etc around them. Our economic model is dictated by an owning class (capitalists) which is driven to seek profit at all costs, or fail, and fall into an expoited class of workers (the proletariat). Nothing invented under this economic model will ever serve any purpose other than advancing the profits of this owning class. However, a model that is not dictated by the necessity of profit and infinite growth could very easily put something like AI to brilliant use. Imagine if instead of launching new "expirimental" (read: unfinshed) AI models every week to put out shitty artwork and poorly answer search queries, we had worked on them and put out one, singularly effective model in hospitals or energy production? Not for the sake of profit, but for the sake of improving the common welfare. AI is not the problem here. Capitalism, an impossible to maintain economic model, is.
