IDC about the AI legitimacy argument; there's nothing to discuss. I think AI is BS, it can't really create things, and that because it was fed with art from people against their consent and is just regurgitating what it was fed, it is practically thievery. So, no, I don't support generative AI Like this person. However, I think you don't understand this person, or the pains of someone who can't Draw. From the title, I expected you to say something that would reflect understanding, but I was immediately aware that you didn't understand, because of the first phrase of your interpretation of his pleas: "Somewhere along the line, this person was clearly told...". You immediately think this person is under the influence of years of people telling them they can't draw. I don't deny it can be the case for this person, however, I agree with this person in regards to this, because I Think the same about my ability to draw. I may not be the same, but I think like them. That I won't ever be able to create art like many of you do. Not because someone told me, on the contrary, I've had many people, teachers, family, friends, push me towards drawing and painting more... And I can draw, I can paint, to a degree, like anyone. Yet I think this, not because someone told me, nor even because I got disappointed by the results I get... On the contrary, I've been very proud of the crappy results I have got whenever I tried. I, however, still believe this, BECAUSE I tried. And by trying I realized I can't do it... because I Hate it. I Hate Drawing. If I were to say that I'd want the "gift" you have to draw, I don't think I'd mean your skill, or any innate ability to view shapes and transform them into a painting, I think I could learn that. No, the "gift" I'd want, is being able to use a pencil to draw lines in a paper and enjoy it, or at least, let it be something I don't hate doing. I not only don't enjoy drawing... I suffer through it... and I can't possibly justify going through that process over and over to get better, when I weight it against all the other things that I could use my time on, that I actually enjoy; like writing, programming, researching, or... well, looking at art others made. Hell, for me, even many of my jobs have been more enjoyable than drawing. So no, I think THERE is a gift. And It may not necessarily be a skill you're born with, but it is something that allows you to keep pursuing this activity until you become good at it. Think of it like this: How much time would you want to spend eating, if everything tasted disgusting? That's drawing for me, and some of us who Can't Draw; with the advantage, that we don't need to draw to live.
