what i find myself wondering about is how exactly these companies expect things to play out long term? regardless of how AI develops the entire global financial system is going to collapse in the near future when the majority of people in the majority of countries can't afford to live anymore (this isn't even a direct consequence of AI the real issue is wealth concentration where AI is just accelerating it and exacerbating some of the issues by making our labour even more worthless), and some kind of economic reform is almost guaranteed at that point which could reasonably end up with these companies no longer being at the top. the elites collecting infinite money through finance bullsh*t is very funny and all but they can only do that by denying everyone else from having that money which they need in order to live, it doesn't take a genius to know there's an upper limit to wealth concentration and when you go past it the only possible outcome is that regular people eventually put their foot down, whether that's by voting for politicians that aren't actual hellspawn, actually doing organised boycotts of the problematic companies, or just revolting the old fashioned way. i've been a socialist for years which used to get me laughed out of most debates or hit with "but look at russia" anytime i make a point, but corporations these days are so blatantly awful and our prospects are looking so bleak that i've noticed a lot of people getting fed up with modern capitalism which i think is a good sign for the future
