What many people don't realize is that AI doesn't replace photoshop or the brush, it replaces the brain. Generating images with AI takes away countless decisions during the creation process. And I think there's a point to be made that maybe we shouldn't give up on our brains as quickly as on horses or steam machines. The phrase "use it or lose it" is very much true. Perhaps they call AI a viable tool because they themselves are tools.
A lot of the defenses can be explained by a recent study that found a correlation between AI use and "aversive" personality traits.
