The price to be paid is clear and easy to see - it is a future that makes the hunger games look like a really upbeat, optimistic time to live. The reason is super simple - humans. The industrial revolution helped mankind leverage their ideas by 1000X making our roads, cities, infrastructure, etc... Also - great video, you are spot on and great to listen to. What I wrote below got suuuuppper long so tldr - there is a chance that we end up in utopia as well but humans will pose the biggest threat to this becoming a reality for all mankind. But now, AI will be able to do virtually any one of our jobs and this is easily coming in the near future if not already here. And office type jobs are at highest risk. At least people that are working in a factory for example are... well they are working. There could be AI combined with the robots, and this which may augment robotics and will robotics also get into our manufacturing sites? Sure, it is absolutely likely that we will see AI augmented robots running around doing everything, carpentry, retail, surgery! BUT where the heck are all of these "humanoid" robots get their power from? If they have to move around to do work will they be tethered? Would the tethers get tangled? Or one idea is that they have rapid change power cells... like a magazine load - dump the used cell, swap in the new cell, and continue to work... or when out of power they simply go to the "power bank" area pf the plant to turn in the used cell and get another fully charged one. There could even be a robot that roams around hot swapping the power cells right where the robots happen to be. This service robot would find a bot who needs a new power cell and just swap it out right there on the spot. These ideas would not only work, but are obviously necessary if the robots have to move around to get the work done. I think that this power cell swapping bank and roaming cell swapper is my idea, I have not seen these ideas anywhere else... it would be cool to have invented something like this... but why would i help? Well, there is an alternative future to the hunger games one - the future where the robots free all mankind from dangerous, boring, repetitive work that we need done but are very happy to never have to do again. With so much wealth being generated a new economic model would need to be invented - here I would literally say that AI should replace every single politician on the planet! One or 2 desktop computers could run all of congress! Think, AI can't take a bribe, would not be making back room deals, would not need to take time off, could work 24/7, would make far far far less mistakes, would stop telling lies, etc. And this would be an AI that is properly designed, with zero biases built in, with safeguards in place, etc in other words, it would do an awesome job. Lets just say that we work out all the details where the AI ends up doing magical things for all humanity and does nothing harmful at all... People will learn the truth, what a concept. I suspect that many of our social and economic issues would not be hard to solve and there is a future where everyone wins, and no one is left behind, homeless, hungry, etc... And fwiw the supply and demand curve is somewhat based on human behaviors but supply and demand has elements that are simply facts of nature... there is only so much of everything that exists on our planet today. As we consume things up then what? Unless we start snagging meteors on a daily basis that are made up of and are rich in critical elements we have to live with the finite resources model.. I am sure it can be figured out. Anyway the idea here is rock solid and is the best chance for humanity ever... so somehow we need to prevent the hunger games future from becoming our reality while at the same time working to develop "Deep Thought".
