We make this mistake time and again. We confuse technological progress with moral progress.
When email was adopted as a form of communication, we didn't work less because of the time saved. We worked the same amount and became more productive.
When crypto first came around, we didn't create an equitable society as the technology promised. The tech was placed in our current social and moral context - the rich scammed us with rug pulls and wealth predictably consolidated. We again found ourselves with the "haves" and the "have nots".
Now with AI we're expecting moral and social progress again. We won't even get unemployment, they'll just keep contriving work for us to do. Across party lines, no one likes to see unemployment rates go up, and no one is going to work less. Otherwise, who will spend to keep the economy going?
