Any tech that takes something that used to be controlled by individuals or small businesses and puts it in the hands of huge corporations whose profits only go to a tiny number of the richest people, is bad. No matter any benefits the tech in itself might potentially have, the fact it’s concentrating power and money into fewer and fewer hands is really bad for all of us
Whether it’s AI replacing human artists and writers, autonomous vehicles replacing taxi drivers, social media and dating apps replacing person to person social interaction, or the likes of visa and Mastercard having control over what can and can’t be paid for. Or anything else you can thing of that takes something that used to be done by normal people and replaced it with something owned and controlled by billionaires. It’s all bad
Any of these technologies might be net good for humanity, if each person or community had ownership over their own version of it. But we don’t. The ownership is always far removed from any of us. And that’s what makes them all toxic to us as people and to society as a whole
