I'm a programmer (who would love to, and wants to, be an artist) and I'm all in for AI. I use several different kinds in several moments of my day but I 100% agree with this issue. This one is not ethical. I also think that being an opt-in kinda thing is really good but not sufficient (maybe not even that impactful). We need a way to detect when a generated art is too similar to an already existing one and raise an alert for that. Alerting that the generated image may be under copyright rights and suggesting "Hey, this person makes art exactly like this. You should consider commissioning them". Maybe even suggesting other artists with similar style, in case that one is not open for commission at the time, and alerting the artist in case none of that is done and the image is downloaded to be used anyway. This could be useful even in case of human-made theft/plagiarism.
I'm trying to make an AI that detects that and gives those alerts and suggestions but damn, it's so freaking hard and I'm not that smart. It seems that an entire research team is needed to create such an AI.
