I'm kinda indiffrent to AI but at some point you say the AI version is good because its trained on artists that are good but doesnt that arguement also work for artists? Most good ones over the ages had good influences or mentors. No one became "good" without the world around them.
As for your final question, i guess i depends on your world view. As a cosmic nihilist i believe everything is pointless, AI no AI it doesnt matter nothing will be left in the end.And any "purpose" is self imposed so either you find one or you dont. And if you feel bad that you dont have any just remember you never had one to begin with.
