I think it's worth mentioning that luddites were trying to protest their jobs being automated away and those protesters were shot and executed by the government. In my opinion, people who use the word luddite in a derogatory way are voicing their support for the bourgeoisie and their right to violently suppress workers. In their comparison they're essentially saying you deserve the death penalty for using nightshade.
