I don't see AI art going away anytime soon; Despite what artists think of it, the fact remains that it fills a niche within the market. It would be better to accept that reality, and learn to adapt to it and work with the industry to determine how best to make use of this new tool.
The fact is, people Will be willing to buy this service. Anywhere someone wants art, but wouldn't normally hire an artist, AI art programs solve that problem. A few quick examples off the top of my head:
Character portraits for TTRPGs; Art for hobbiest modders to use in their complete free game mods; Place-holder images for starting content creators to use until they have the money to hire an actual artist; Quick creation concept art, for when you want to show an artist you hired what you had in mind for a commission; Messenger app profile pictures; Background images for a computer monitor.
The kinds of things you would normally get, in the modern world, by trying to find a free image from a Goggle images search, basically. No artist would get paid for these things, anyway, so using AI art for them isn't an issue.
