No driver means no one to wrangle the truck to safety when there is a failure like the steering going out or an axle locking up or the engine losing compression. These are things every driver has to deal with someday, each rare and unique scenarios, exactly the sort of thing you cant train AI for especially on shiny new trucks.
And no AI is ever gonna stop when seeing a crash, get out and peel open your car before it sinks in a river like my dad has done. Having competent and responsive people on the road means more than getting the load there in time.
