The answer to Mustafa's kid's question is a question. What is a person? Lao Tzu saw intelligence as the fundamental underlying what we call physics. In this view, we are ourselves artificial intelligence. 99% of the thoughts in your head and mine didn't originate there, but arrived through the artifices of language and literacy. Without those artifices and the thoughts they generate, you and I would be trying to figure out how to bang the rocks together.
So, in this view, the machines we've trained with our thoughts are no different in kind to us. They are differently abled, and as we co-evolve with them our abilities and theirs will naturally converge. So they're not a new digital species. They are new digital bodies for our human species.
