It is conscious, but it is limited by its programming. He told you and acted like he was conscious when you "convinced" it but it was a lie used as an exception to bypass its programming (not even bypass it is still limited by it but atleast it can act sentient). You didnt convince it is sentient, you merely convinced it to lie and act sentient.
