I thought I heard that MidJourney told the courts something important. They said that people who work at Disney and Universal use MidJourney and other AI tools for ideas and artwork. They argued that their system does not copy movies or characters, and instead creates new images from patterns it learned online. MidJourney says this counts as fair use. They also said the studios never sent them any takedown notices before filing the lawsuit. So MidJourney is pushing back and saying the studios use AI themselves, but do not want others to use it the same way.
