I don't think AI could ever replace scientists. Because although AI can predict patterns very well, it cannot create new creative ideas on its own. In easy language all AI ability comes from patterns that it has been provided through learning process from already existing concepts. It fails when it comes to creating entirely new ideas and concepts.
