They're doing it because of greed. It's not safe- many are going to die, and no one in power cares, as long as they get to save pennies. That being said- we can boycott companies that do this, or boycott companies that use self check outs too much, or boycott companies who use palm reader registers, or boycott companies that use AI. I do! They can go fuck themselves.
I can say- I don't want this level of automation, I am willing to buy groceries myself.
We can say no to this level of "convenience" on a mass scale and it will fade away.
