Actually, cases like this are super important, because it does in fact contribute to the establishment of law are regards to AI. I am happy to see the legal systems slap down guys like this, because it establishes legal precedent for going against the larger infringers such as the AI developers themselves. As you pointed out, the use of copyrighted work as training data is itself an ongoing flagrant abuse of copyrighted material, and there is a definite need for these exploitations to be reigned in, or else the very notion of intellectual property has to go away. And that doesn't just mean artists. That means brands, logos, designs, the whole shebang, because the whole idea of these being property are in fact based upon the original interpretation of copyright. To each cow belongs its calf, and to each book its copy. The birth of copyright.
