So, the theory is that we don't really exist except as some form of AI agent, and that everything the AI agents perceive as "reality" is just other AI agents. Everything is just essentially a simulation. We are zoo tycoon and some actual being is pushing our buttons. Perhaps, 600 million years ago, humans advanced to the point a bit beyond where we are today, and facing a cataclysmic extinction event, came to the realization that it's not feasible or even necessary to exist in a physical sense so they created a virtual universe.
