Here's a harsh reality: AI doesn't need consciousness.
Consciousness is a feature found in the human mind, and could be exclusive to mammals. AI can have agency and self modeling without it. And once those two things get to a certain level, humanity will simply be in trouble.
Please stop it with the reductionist arguments. We need to take this subject very seriously.
