I think he’s got a point. Let’s remember when car production was industrialized by Ford, for example, and assembly line work was introduced. Back then, people would have said, “Well, to build a car, you need all sorts of different skills, and the worker won’t be replaceable.” The story is known. In the end, it’s about automating one task after another in a job profile, even if there are a hundred different tasks. In our company, this is already happening. A credit assessor used to have to analyze financial statements. Now a software program can take over, much faster and with even better quality. Even if today a human still has to check it, that won’t be the case for long. And that’s the main task—even if your job involves many other smaller tasks, that main task will then shift to something else, which will also get automated. So I think it’s something you can count on. The sluggishness and lack of willingness of companies to adopt it might slow AI down, but the technology will definitely come. Unlike industrialization or other technological revolutions, there’s no longer the requirement to use many people. That’s the problem.
